Smoking and COVID-19 – Dr Zeina Aoun Bacha

According to several studies, smokers are more vulnerable to COVID-19. Smoking was proven to be the strongest risk factor among those examined in many studies to the severe forms of COVID-19 and mortality. Cigarettes and hookahs cause hands to come into contact with the mouth. The cigarette, as well as the pack of cigarettes, can be contaminated if the smoker does not wash his hands regularly.
First of all, It is important to encourage patients to stop smoking. Seeing how it’s such an important risk factor for severe COVID 19, it is the right time for smokers to do it, to protect themselves and protect people around them.
